We usually meet on the third Friday of the month at a pub or a public car park and set off at 10.00 a.m. In the main, walks take place in the Herts and Essex countryside and occasionally we venture further afield into London, Cambridge etc.
A pre-planned route, normally circular, is followed on public rights of way (footpaths, tracks, bridleways and highways) and frequently encounter stiles, hills, gates and other obstacles. We take a break at the halfway point for light refreshments. This can be in café or an appropriate point along the route. The walks usually end with food at a pub. Members are advised to wear walking shoes or walking boots to suit variable ground conditions and suitable protective clothing to deal with the vagaries of the British climate.
The aim of the group is to provide a healthy, educational and sociable activity, all in the open air and in our lovely countryside.
November update
The photo below was taken on October walk of the less frequented parts of Bishop’s Stortford, after which we retired to The Nag’s Head for a welcome lunch. Travelling further afield for their November Walk, the group will visit the grounds of Forty Hall and Whitewebbs Park in Enfield.
